One of the oldest neighbourhoods in Rome, Trastevere was a predominantly working class district until the 1960s, when the middle and upper classes moved in. Today both tourists and Romans enjoy the vibrant nightlife in the local bars and restaurants.
This cosmopolitan neighbourhood is home to a large American community, as well as many Europeans (primarily German and French). Though it has become very trendy, the neighbourhood’s narrow streets still offer a glimpse of the old world.
The apartment itself is situated along a charming cobblestone lane and is within walking distance of the Villa Farnesina (10 minutes), the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere (15 minutes), and the Basilica di San Pietro (St. Peter's Basilica) (20 minutes).
The apartment
This quiet fourth-floor apartment (38 m²) has lots of charm with its wood cabinetry and affords a beautiful view of the Janiculum. There is no elevator in the building.
The front hall (4 m²) leads directly into the kitchen and has a wooden buffet.
The kitchen (12.5 m² - north facing) is attractively painted in pretty blue and looks out over the Janiculum. It has a two-burner stove, all the cooking and eating utensils you'll need, a microwave, and a fridge. A table with two chairs and a bench are set up in the corner in front of the window.
The bedroom (18 m² - south facing) is street-side and is furnished with a double bed with two mattresses side by side, an armoire, two bedside tables, a bookcase, an armchair, and a small, round table with two chairs.
The bathroom (3.5 m²) is fitted with a bathtub, sink, bidet, and toilet. There are no windows in the bathroom.
