One of the oldest neighbourhoods in Rome, Trastevere was a predominantly working class district until the 1960s, when the middle and upper classes moved in. Today both tourists and Romans enjoy the vibrant nightlife in the local bars and restaurants.
This cosmopolitan neighbourhood is home to a large American community, as well as many Europeans (primarily German and French). Though it has become very trendy, the neighbourhood’s narrow streets still offer a glimpse of the old world.
The apartment itself is situated on one such lane. Vicolo del Bologna is lined with charming restaurants and shops and is within walking distance of the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere (5 minutes) and the Villa Farnesina (10 minutes). Piazza Farnese is just on the other side of the Ponte Sisto pedestrian bridge.
The apartment
Bologna is a bright and charming fourth-floor apartment (44 m²) with tiled floors. There is no elevator in the building. The air-conditioned apartment is nicely laid out and tastefully decorated in white and light tones.
There is a small entrance (3.4 m2) in which you'll find a closet, table, and mirror.
The entrance leads to the main room (36 m²), which is divided into four separate areas: the kitchen, the dining room, the living room, and the bedroom.
- The living room (11.8 m2 – east facing) looks out onto the lane and is furnished with a double sofa-bed, an armchair, a couple of coffee tables, and a TV.
- The dining room (12.9 m2 - east facing) offers superb views of the lane and the Trastevere skyline. Along with a table and four chairs, there is a commode, and a console table. Vertical beams divide the dining room and living room.
- The kitchen (4.9 m² - east facing) is separated from the rest of the room by a partial wall and is fully equipped with all the modern conveniences (fridge, electric burners, microwave, and dishwasher) and all the cooking and eating utensils you’ll need.
- The bedroom (6.75 m²) is separated from the living room by a partition wall that does not go all the way to the ceiling. In the bedroom, there is a double bed, wardrobe, and bedside table. There are no windows in the bedroom.
- The bathroom (4.2 m² - east facing) overlooks the lane and is fitted with a shower, sink, bidet, cabinets, and a washing machine.

Notes
The apartment is situated in a very picturesque and lively part of Trastevere.
It can be a little noisy in the summer with the windows open but the apartment does have air conditioning.
The wall between the living room and bedroom does not go all the way to the ceiling (opening: approx. 40 cm).
