The famous Monti hill, at the foot of Santa Maria Maggiore, is one of the oldest districts in Rome. It owes its name to the fact that it spans the Esquiline and Viminal Hills as well as parts of the Quirinal and Caelian Hills. Here, local craft shops are scattered throughout a maze of narrow, inclined streets. Fierce rivals of the Trasteverins, the inhabitants have proudly safeguarded the city’s identity throughout the centuries.
The apartment itself is in a historic building in a quiet but very picturesque alley near public transportation (Metro Line B and buses nos. 75 and 117) and within walking distance of the Colosseum and the Palazzo delle Esposizioni on Via Nazionale (15 minutes).
